About

An artist, by and large

I do many things — but by and large, I believe I'm an artist. I see beauty in God's creation, often in the uncommon perspectives most of us rush past on our way to the next thing.

How it started

I've been drawing since I was about eight years old. I'd wake up early on Sunday mornings to watch a show called Captain Bob — a follow-along program where he'd lead us through building a drawing, piece by piece. I was up before anyone else in the house, waiting to see what the next one would be. One morning I made an exact duplicate of a blue whale he drew. My mom thought I was kidding when I told her I'd done it myself — then she went out and bought me a set of mechanical colored pencils to keep me going.

The path

That love of making things carried me to the University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts. It led me into advertising and newspaper ad design for a time — work that didn't feed my soul — and then into designing and building custom signs for businesses, which I've done for many years and still do today. Along the way, I spent more than 25 years teaching martial arts. These days, I'm pouring myself more deeply into photography — landscape, wildlife, and increasingly portrait and modeling work — and I still paint in oils.

Whatever the medium — a photograph, an oil painting, a hand-carved sign — the thread is the same. I see the beauty in God's creation, and I want to help you possess it and display it in your home or business for a lifetime, and beyond.
